Dave, Shirley, Ken, Annette, Matt and Pat carpooled together (40 minutes drive) to play pickleball in South Surrey Recreation Centre.

South Surrey Recreation Centre has a very good system. Eight courts were divided into two gyms like ARC. In each gym, one court at the far end is marked 'A+' for A+ players, so there are two 'A+' courts. (Updated Jan 21/11 - a new notice announcing only one 'A+ court is available for eight courts). The other seven courts are for all other players.

There were about 60 players in eight courts, their line-up system is excellent that players sat down at the end of the lineups after playing a game. They certainly asked the players who did not obey the lineup system (barge in) to go back to the back of the lineup.

Players can play in any court by self-ranking but they all look like A and B players. At first we played in one gym with about 15 minutes waiting for each game. After playing for two hours, we played in the other gym with less waiting and found that those players were also excellent players. We played for almost three hour although it was supposed to be two hours play time. We had a lot of fun with very competitive games. The level of play there was very high.

It was nice to see Luba who played in our tournament last June. We met a lot of very friendly players: Len, Wilson, Cary, Harold, two Janet, Gordon, Ore, Anne and many others. We had very interesting friendly conversation with new friends we met. They asked us to come back to play soon. It was so nice to feel welcomed and we thoroughly enjoyed this experience.

  1. Seems a shame that there are so many time slots for 55+.

Are they very strict on age? I'm 36 but I play recreationally.

  2. In the 2013 National tournament, although you can't play in the 55+ brackets, you can play in the Under 55 and Open (any age) Men's, Women's and Mixed doubles. Thanks for your interest.
