Social Dinner at 6:30 pm on Saturday July 7 at Phoenix Lounge


There will be a social dinner at 6:30 pm on Saturday July 7 at Phoenix Lounge and Global Dining, 33780 King Road, Abbotsford http://espositogroup.ca/. The Phoenix Lounge and Finnegan's Pub are both located next to each other across from the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre. The cost of dinner is not included in the National tournament. Each player will pay his own bill. The dinner special menu offered at $10 (15% gratuity included) are:
1. Hi-Rise Burger -grilled 1/4 pound Prime Rib burger garnished with all the trimmings served with sea-salted fries or garden salad
2. The Margherita 10" pizza topped with fresh basil, tomato and rich tomato sauce, topped with melted Mozzarella, Monterey Jack & Bocconcini cheese.
3. Old Style fish & chips cod loin in a light beer batter, served with fries and tartar sauce.
Other items on the menu and drinks can be purchased at the regular price.
We are expecting 30+ players to enjoy a fun social dinner together on Saturday July 7.

There will be a practice time $2 drop-in fees for National tournament players at 5 - 8 pm on Friday July 6 at Abbotsford Recreation Centre, 2499 McMillan Rd., Abbotsford

USAPA National Champions coming to Pickleball Canada National Open Championship July 7 - 8, 2012

Four USAPA National Champions will be competing in Open Singles and Doubles in the Pickleball Canada National Open Championship on July 7 - 8, 2012:  Chris Miller, Jennifer Lucore, Billy and Darcie Jacobsen.  2011 USAPA National Champions Billy Jacobsen and Chris Miller have won gold in Open Mens Singles and Doubles, and Jennifer Lucore won gold in Open Singles and Doubles. It will be great to watch these top USAPA National Champions 5.0  play next weekend at Abbotsford Recreation Centre in Abbotsford, B.C. Canada.

National Tournament Players Practice 5 - 8 pm, July 6, 2012

There will be a special drop in practice time for National tournament players ONLY  at Abbotsford Recreation Centre, 2499 McMillan Rd., Abbotsford, B.C. on Friday July 6. We will tape the NVZ lines that night.

$2 drop in or membership cards (NOT senior’s activity memberships)

Players can also practise next week on Tuesday  and Thursday drop ins at 1:30 - 3:30 pm and at 7:30 - 9:30 pm.  Also Wednesday at 1:30 - 3:30 pm.  Regular drop in fees apply.

Schedule of Events
Check the posted or online schedule for your event’s start time. Check in 30 minutes before your event. You must be warmed up and ready for your match when it is announced. Players who do not report to their assigned court ready to play within 10 minutes of their announced match will forfeit that match.
Saturday July 7: Mens and Womens Doubles 55+, 60+, 65+, 70+, Open Mens and Womens Doubles, Under 55 Mens and Womens Doubles
Sunday July 8: Mixed Doubles 55+, 60+, 65+, 70+, Open Mens and Womens Singles, Open Mixed Doubles, Under 55 Mixed Doubles.


Tournament Information:
- Players must sign waivers at registration desk before playing.
- Abbotsford Recreation Centre is hosting this sanctioned event by Pickleball Canada.
- Round Robin format games to 11, win by two. If tied at 14, the first team scoring 15 points wins. Medal positions are decided by the most matches won. In the event of a tie, the team with the most points wins. If still tied, the team with the most points in the match against the other team wins.
- Double Elimination format games to 15, win by two, if tied at 20, the first team scoring 21 points wins. Lower bracket games to 11, win by two, if tied at 14, the first team scoring 15 points wins.
-Head referee or his/her assignee will handle any disputes. Their decision is final.
- International Federation of Pickleball Rules. Local exception to use badminton lines for NVZ. No non-conforming equipment permitted.
- Green Jugs indoor ball will be used.
- Red wrist bands provided to first servers on both teams.
- Name tags provided.
- Two to three minutes warm-up only.
- Two one-minute time outs per team per match if required.
- Coins will be available at court side to decide first serve or sides.
- Teams can switch sides at 8, if so desired at Double Elimination games.
- Winners responsible to provide the score to a Scorekeeper.
- Gold medal matches in Double Elimination will be refereed.
- Medals will be presented to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers.
- Photographs will be taken at the medal presentations.
- Prize draws in the afternoon. You or someone must be present for you to win a draw prize.
- Please no food or drinks on courts.
- Lunch provided between 12 pm - 1:30pm.

Driving Instructions: Abbotsford is located on Hwy-1 (TransCanada) in southwest British Columbia, approx. 5 km north of the U.S. border and approx. 70 km southeast of Vancouver.
From Hwy-1: Hwy-1 (TransCanada) to Sumas Way/Hwy-11 exit. North Sumas/Hwy-11 to Marshall Rd. East (right) on Marshall to McMillan Rd. Left on McMillan about 1/2 mile to Abbotsford Recreation Center. Arena is on the left, on the corner of McMillan Rd. and Old Yale Rd.

PICKLEBALL CANADA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP JULY 7 - 8, 2012

WE HAVE 158 PLAYERS, 3 NON-PLAYERS REGISTERED.

ALL MENS EVENTS ARE NOW FULL.  WE STILL HAVE SOME SPACES  OPEN FOR 60+, 65+ WOMENS DOUBLES AND MIXED DOUBLES.  REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS JUNE 20, 2012.

WE WILL HAVE 20 EVENTS MENS AND WOMENS DOUBLES, MIXED DOUBLES AND SINGLES ON 14 INDOOR COURTS AT ARC & YALE SECONDARY SCHOOL ON JULY 7TH AND 8TH.

THE MAYOR OF ABBOTSFORD BRUCE BANMAN WILL GIVE A WELCOME SPEECH AT 8:00 AM JULY 7 AND LEAD THE SINGING OF THE NATIONAL ANTHEM.  PLAY WILL BEGIN AT 8:30 AM.

PICKLEBALL CANADA WILL HAVE 20  OFFICIALS ATTENDING:  6 DIRECTORS, 14  AMBASSADORS.

TEAMS FROM ALL OVER CANADA AND THE UNITED STATES WILL BE COMPETING IN THIS NATIONAL EVENT.   SOME OF THE BEST PLAYERS WILL BE COMING SO IT WILL BE EXCITING TO SEE THE TOP PLAYERS PLAY.

MEDALS WILL BE PRESENTED TO THE 1ST, 2ND AND 3RD PLACE FINISHERS.  PHOTOGRAPHS WILL BE TAKEN AT THE MEDAL PRESENTATIONS.

ARC HAS FREE OUTDOOR AND UNDERGROUND PARKING, WASHROOMS WITH SHOWERS, SENIORS ROOM WITH BILLIARD TABLES.  ARC HAS A SWIMMING POOL, SWIRL POOL, SAUNA, SKATING RINK, RUNNING TRACK AND A LARGE WEIGHT ROOM

ACCOMODATIONS IN ABBOTSFORD:  BEST WESTERN REGENCY, SANDMAN HOTEL, SUPER 8, COAST HOTELS, RAMADA AND ALOHA TRAILER PARK & CAMPSITE.

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION AND SCHEDULE WILL BE SENT OUT TO ALL PLAYERS TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT.
